DirectX 9.0b and Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Gary

I think I've made a mistake upgrading to DirectX 9.0b.
As soon as I did that install my soundcard was partially
knocked out. The errors I got were 'Error occurred
during DirectPlay voice setup Err Code 0.80004005'
and 'Windows cannot execute DpvSetup.exe'. I've already
looked at the knowledge base and checked the hardware
acceleration suggestion.

Another hint for you savvy folk: My Sounds and Audio
Devices Properties shows blank in the 'Voice Playback'
dropdown list. I move it to 'Santa Cruz' and it
won't "hold"... next time I look at it it has gone back
to no selection.

And if that don't beat all... I can't restore my system
to any of the restore points. Am I screwed?

You don't say if you checked for up-dated drivers at the manufacturer's
website. Try re-installing or up-grading them.
DirectX 9.0b should be ok with your card.

Gary,

Just a thought -- Are you certain that you don't have a system restore point
set for the x9.0b update? Windowsupdate is pretty good about automatically
setting restore points, b4 installing updates. I just checked my own system
and found a restore point for the same update, 7/24/03.

Not much consolation I know, but, I use the exact same TB card and had no
issues with the MS update here.
