"DirectX 10

A major update to DirectX API, DirectX 10 ships with and is only available
with Windows Vista.

Previous versions of Windows such as Windows XP are not able to officially
run DirectX 10-exclusive applications.[5]

There are unofficial ports of DirectX 10 to XP[6], however these do not
always work reliably[citation needed]. Changes for DirectX 10 were extensive."

HTH,
Paul

DX10 is a bit slower than 9c on a Vista machine. I'd not bother to try on an
XP machine. Most current apps run fine using 9c.

Thanks. I should think this will exclude Media Center as well right?

Media Center is an "edition". Doesn't change that you are still running
Windows XP, not Windows Vista. DX10 is only available on Vista and up.
DX9 is the latest you can get for XP. That means if a game demands DX10
that you won't be able to install or play it unless you move to Vista
(or Windows 7 but I haven't toyed with that unreleased version).

If you have been keeping Windows XP up to date using Windows Update then
you have the latest version of DX that is supported on that OS.
