Diplaying contacts available in e-mail

In my "send an e-mail" window when I call up available addresses on the "To"
button, my contacts list both the e-mail listing and then underneath it an
entry that is lists the fax number for the same contact. This doubles the
entries I have to scroll through and is confusing as to which to choose
quickly. How can I stop the display of the duplicate listing that is
displaying the contacts fax number?Thanks.

Outlook considers fax numbers to be valid electronic addresses, since there
are many client- and server-based components that can use such addresses.

One method to hide fax numbers from the address book is to prefix the fax
number with one or more letters (maybe B for business fax, H for home, O for
other). If the fax number begins with a letter, Outlook won't show it in the
address book. This definitely works in Outlook 2000 and 2002.

There are a couple of utilities that can help you hide fax numbers from the
address book. See http://www.rsoutlook.com/us/rshifa.htm and
http://www.sperrysoftware.com/Outlook_Solutions.htm (Hide Fax Numbers).

Another way to avoid avoid having fax numbers appear in the address book is
simply not to enter data in the fax fields. Put fax numbers in some other
(non-phone) fields.

Hi Sue
This works a treat until you try and send a fax, then are no addresses in
the address book.
The fact that you need to pay an alternative programmer to fix this problem
is a bit of a hard pill to swallow.
Is there no other way around this problem?
Shouldn’t Microsoft offer the solution as part of the program that has been
purchased

Regards
Ken

I'm not sure what solution could be offered that wouldn't cripple the fax feature (which has always been something of a stepchild). Either fax numbers are set up as electronic addresses or they're not. It's your choice. I've personally never been bothered by their appearance in the address book, and I rarely send faxes any more. (Fax is such a 90s technology.) But then again, I rarely display the address book. Usually I just type in enough of the name to get autocomplete to kick in or a little more if I need Outlook to resolve it for me.
