Difficulty logging onto secure websites AFTER downloading patch

I have a new laptop from Dell, and it came pre-installed
with MS Explorer ver6. I found I had trouble logging onto
my secure sites (e.g. personal banking, American Express
account), so I checked the Microsoft website, found a
patch that corrected the exact symptoms I was having, and
downloaded/executed the patch.
It has cleared up all of my problems except I still cannot
log into the American Express website with this laptop. I
can boot up my old laptop (MS Explorer 5) and get in
without a problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If not, I suggest you try the troubleshooting info available in it.
