Hello, I am having difficulty loading windows xp into a
compaq predario 5365 which had a hard drive fail. It has
a new larger one. I did not reload the compaq disks. I
tried to do a clean install on one partition. I am
stalling out, was at 13 min left now I can't even get
thru the first bit. errors include memory modual and irql
not less or equal...I am wondering what to do. Do I try
the compaq disks, as I still have the original
motherboard etc? or what. can't hook up to the internet
as have taken modum out so as to lessen problems, so i
can't update drivers... could I install windows 98? would
it matter? shall I boot the whole system out the window?
Help.
Helen

You can try to just install Windows XP. I just did, for my son's friend, on
a Compaq notebook. Everything worked fine. The necessary drivers were
included on the XP CD.
