Difficulty burning disks

This is my first try on this system. In it's predecessor, I burned many a
disk, and it also used Windows XP Home Edition. The basics of the process
are familiar to me, but this has me baffled.

I have attempted to burn off some things on my system, but copying to the
appropriate drive takes a very long time, about 30 to 45 seconds per item.
When that is done, I click on the link that should start up the wizard to
burn the disk . . . but not only does it never come up, but the window for
that drive keeps disappearing. This computer is relatively new . . . less
than three months old. What is going on? Is there any way I can set the
ability to make disks to where it should be?

One thing to check..right click the drive..properties..recording tab and
make sure "Enable CD Recording on this drive" is checked.
