Difficult to access IMAP account in Outlook

My emails come from an IMAP account on an IMAP, but I have been having
difficulty trying to access my emails in Outlook. Whenever I try to
send/receive or even access the IMAP Inbox folder, Outlook constantly freezes
or does not access the IMAP server. Does anyone else have similar problems?
Or could this be something I should be asking my server?
 
Possibly just poor communication with the IMAP server. If you have any
antivirus email integration enabled disable it. I also don't add my IMAP
account to my main Send/Receive group and access the IMAP folders with no
preview pane so only the headers are initially downloaded. Also increase
your server timeout.
