I am interested in loading different programs for different users.

I have a Dell 8250 with 120 MB HD and 1 gb RAM. I would like to start
some video editing of the kids.

I wanted to set up 2 accounts -- one for everyday use and one which I
will call "photo". In "Photo", I only want to load those programs
needed to deal with video editing and video/photo printing and NOT
load my "usual" programs such as Norton's, PDA hot synch, my usual
non-photo printer etc. The reason -- to try to have 2 profiles to
maximize performance for both settings.

1) is this nuts??

2) can this be done. I know how to set up different accounts --- but
setting up different accounts seems to deal with access to programs
and access to files. I want to maximize resources and limit what
programs are LOADED at startup.

thoughts?

Hi Mark,

1) No, it's not nuts, but it's not entirely necessary either. You can use
one account, but just shutdown loaded utilities when you want to do the
video editing.

Or

2) Start/run msconfig, disable all loading programs. Then place shortcuts to
the programs you want to load into the startup folder for each user profile:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I believe you'll need to dual boot - in other words, two separate
installations of Windows.

I was hoping for an automatic method.......but your suggestion is what
I have been doing and it "works"
