Didn't activate win XP, system shut down and won't come
back up. I hear fans, hard drive, cd-rom open and closes
but no lights or beeps, nothing.....Help

Go to another computer and find out how to call MS and get
out of this fix. And fnd your activation code, either on
your machine, or orange label on CD case.

"In that case you have to take the alternative method of
activation (once the system is installed - not during
installation).
Run Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools -
Activate Windows
and take the Activate by Phone choice. You will be given
a toll free number to call, and then will have to explain
circumstances - any reasonable explanation accepted, and
swap one long number for another to type in."

Power on, and as the initial BIOS or maker's screen goes black, hit F8
to get a menu and choose Safe Mode. that should work if the time for
activation has run out, and you will be able to go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and use the 'activate by phoning' to a toll free number that will be
given, to swap one long number for another.
