Dictionary & Thesaurus

Unless I am proven wrong is it not amazing that at this stage of computing
advancement there is not one Dictionary and Thesaurus on a CD that can be
fully installed on and is compatible with Win.XP?

With virtually every one learning this universal language one would have
thought that people in Oxford Press or Collins would be falling over
themselves to produce one!

in... There is one online that is done by Oxford....

There are many of these products available (and available for many years
even before XP), including some that can be found by scanning the
shelves at your local computer software store, and online.

Start your journey to learn about this at
http://directory.google.com/Top/Arts/Writers_Resources/Software/Spelling_and_Grammar/

You may wish to contact Oxford Press and/or Collins with your
expectations of products they should, could, or would have released.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

The Oxford one is not compatible with Win.XP. They even state that in their
blurb!

The MSWord one is not sufficiently comprehensive either!

I wish that you check your data before replying. The one that Oxford Press
have is an old version produced before Win. XP and is not compatible with
the Windows! I tried it!

I conducted several searches and not one English Dictionary & Thesaurus on a
CD-ROM is available.

The one from Collins is not fully installable! you have to insert the CD
every time you want to use it!

I'm not really trying to do work for you. I'm only trying to point you
in a direction to assist. You sound like you want to fail. So go ahead.

If you don't like Collins' or Oxford's products ... complain to them.
Not here.

I have Windows XP Home Edition and this web site works great. Just paste this web address into your address bar and check it out. http://www.m-w.com

I use MS BookShelf which came with one of my versions of MS Office, not
Office XP which I use (you can install programs from different versions of
MS Office and they run fine). BookShelf was also sold as a stand alone
program, Microsoft BookShelf is always in my CD drive. It has a
Dictionary, Thesaurus, Encyclopedia, Atlas, and Quotations all on one CD,
and all accessed through the same GUI window. I just searched:

http://www.pricewatch.com/

for Bookshelf, and saw that you can purchase BookShelf 2000 for as low as $9
(nine dollars) with free shipping.

Sadly, MS has discontinued BookShelf, which I find a good and easy to use
tool. I like the feature of being able to search all of the books at once,
or any one of them singularly. It's like having an entire reference library
at your fingertips. The Encyclopedia is not the quality of Britannica. I
didn't expect that it would be. It really doesn't matter if you purchase an
older version of BookShelf, if you're just interested in the Dictionary and
Thesaurus. It's definitely worth more than $9 and free shipping for those
two modules alone

Maybe you need to learn how to read and follow a link. In a link that
Rob provided earlier for you, it very clearly states that the Oxford
English Dictionary runs on XP.

But I will save you the trouble and post it here for you.

System requirements
PC with minimum 200 MHz Pentium-class processor
32 MB RAM (64 MB recommended)
Windows® 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, or XP) (LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS are
required to install and open the OED for the first time on a PC
running Windows® NT4 and to install and run the OED on Windows® 2000
and XP)
1.1 GB hard disk space to run the OED from the CD-ROM and 1.7 GB to
install the CD-ROM to the hard disk
SVGA monitor: 800 x 600 pixels (64k, high colour) setting recommended

dear wes

thank you for your interest.

this help states that it is possible to make many languages available however it includes spelling and grammar tools only for certain languages besides the default one.

in order to make spell check or find a synonym for the needed languages except these commonly used we have to buy the tool.

in this case the best solution is to install the tools from the turkish office xp and bear some minor conflict in office

thanks a lo
