Dialup Limiter

A

Hi
I'd like to be able to leave my computer on overnight, and have it
automatically redial through the night so I can finish large downloads.
However I don't want to get my phone bill and find out that one night, my
ISP was having a problem and my computer dialled up a few hundred times.

Is there any freeware that will allow me to set a limit on the number of
automatic redials, say two or three, and after that not allow the computer
to dial up by itself?

TIA

I don't know what secret flavor of Windows you're using, but IIRC that
DUN connectiod itself has a "try x times" setting, doesn't it? Look in
there where you set your dialing instructions for the connection. (Been
a long time; I may be misremembering.)

I'm using XP, I considered that setting but the thing I'm worried about is 1
or 2 minute connections: I've looked at my connection logs online and seen
that that kind of thing has occurred overnight!

So you're wanting to limit the number of disconnects that it will
respond to with autodialing, rather than the number of times it will try
to reconnect for each disconnect. Sorry...never heard of that kind of
utility.

I don't use one, but surely the freeware download managers have this
capability.

The payware one I use (Go!Zilla) has it.
