When I boot my computer the dialup connection box comes
up. Must click cancel several times to get rid of it if I
don't want to dial up and connect to the internet. How
can I get rid of this on boot up?

- Launch Internet Explorer
- Tools / Internet Options
- Connections
- Tick "Never dial a connection"

Are you, by any chance, running Norton System Works? I've seen it cause this
behaviour. _Usually_ uninstalling and re-installing NSW makes it behave
properly.

If you don't have Norton System Works, there are a number of programs which
automatically check for updates if you let them. Try installing the freeware
program StartUpRun (it picks up more programs than System Information's
Software Environment) and see if eg RealPlayer's Update, yahoo messenger is
loading then. Most of the programs have something hidden in their
options/preferences which allows you disable them at startup. With those
that don't StartupRun lets you prevent them loading with your machine.
