Dialup connection impossible

While setting up a dialup connection (manually using ICW) I can enter the
phonenumber, userid, password but whatever I enter in the dialog for naming
the connection ICW refuses to accept and actually create the connection.
a) What is wrong?
b) How can I solve it?
c) Is it possible to enter the data needed in another way (i.e. in the
registry after creation on another PC [what data?])
d) Where can I find more about this problem?

reinstalling Win2K hardly is an option as it would take a few days to
install all software

I had this problem after installing SP4, the only way I was able to fix
it was to remove SP4.

I am having the same problem, however I tried to
reinstall Win2K Pro and it didn't help. It happened
after I updated our virus protection. I tried everything
and had no luck. Sorry I couldn't help. I'm interested
in any help you may have found. I was looking for the
same answer.

I posted the same question in several forums but didn't get a usefull
answer.
Eventually I decided to format the disk and reinstall everything.....
