Dial Up Internet Network Connections all disappeared?!

In my Network Connections I used to have connections/icons set up for
3 or 4 different dial up ISP accounts.with the dial up numbers,
password, settings etc stored. I am now shocked to find that now it
is empty. Also the 'Connect to' on the start menu is no longer there,
which it used to be.

I am the only person who uses this PC. I am experienced in using PCs
for a long time now but not that advanced with fiddling around with
XP. I never deleted these network settings. How could they disappear
by themselves?? I have looked in the recycle bin and no tell tale
clues there.

What can I do to work out what has happened? I couldn't delete 3 or 4
different ISP network icons by accident. Would a virus of some kind
cause this? I have up to date Zone Alarm and AVG anti virus software
running at all times. Surely their should be some traces of the
deletion on my system somewhere?

Please help and advise.

One possible cause for this is that a necessary Service is stopped in
the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Check the
Telephony and the Remote Access Connection Manager services, f. e.

My pc has the same problem. Network Connection Folder is just empty. For some reason, one day I found it when trying to modify some settings of LAN DNS. The LAN connection works well. I try to delete the Ethernet driver(the hardware integrated on mainboard), it'll automatically installed upon restart of pc but no new connection icon shows up. I found the LAN setting from IE->Tools->Internet Options->Connections...does not show up (as supposed to in previous Windows versions). I also checked my Network Connection Serivce, which is anabled with "automatic" via system tools from control panel

I'm just wondering what can bring my existing connection icons back so that I can modify some of settings from there, or elsewhere

Thanks for any hint

Frank
