Dial in connection goes down when in Outlook Express

When I dial into my ISP, if I open OE, my connection will go down every couple of minutes. Sometimes much more frequently. If I don't open OE, and just open IE, the connection stays up just fine

The computer is a 1 year old Dell Dimension. Reformatted hard drive around XMas due to a bad memory slot (reformatting was Dell support's fault). I always load the latest XP updates, and I think this problem started just after the last update I did (about 2 weeks ago)

Any ideas why this is happening? Would reinstalling OE from the service disks solve the problem

Check OE Tools / Options / Connection - "Hang up after sending and
receiving" is not checked

In OE Tools Connection there is a setting that if ticked will tell the modem
to hang up - change it.
