DHCP Constant IP Address Conflicts

A

Adam Boote

Hi,

We have just installed Windows 2000 Advnaced server and changed our network
clients to use DHCP and configured DHCP on the server. We are constantly
having problems with users getting IP address conflicts. This happens to
different users on different days and different IP's.

Please can someone help as there are about 20 users ringing me all day,
everyday, claiming that they have lost their network connection.

Thanks

What amount of time are the ip addresses leased for? Are your users logging
off and shutting down their machines within this time period?

Is your network using switches? If so double check the switch config. A
trace of the problem would be very helpful.

Also any user that has a static ip configured from some
reason the DHCP server will not see that as a used IP and
will try to assign it.

You need to exclude any static IP address in your DHCP scope to prevent
this.

Had the same problem, also had problem with clients getting the wrong address when raoming between subnets(kept it's old address and renew release didn't help).
Removed the superscope... solved every problem, Why I don't know but it works.
