DGET function can't update unless linked file is open

Using Excel2003, DGET function is linked to another workbook in the same
directory. Returns a #Value! if the source file is not open, works fine when
source file is open. Do not wish to open the source file if possible. Help
appreciated.

You can't use an y D function if the source book is closed, use either INDEX
with MATCH or maybe even a lookup formula
