Devices not working

I am trying to use the Windows Based Terminal Professional template for my
configuration. Everything loads ok but I can read from any external devices.
This includes floppy drive, usb thumbdrive, cd rom. They are listed in
explorer but says i need to format them when I try to access but then fails
upon trying to format. I ran tap.exe and imported into Component Designer.

When importing, some devices were shown not to have drivers in database. How
do I add them?

Thanks for your help.

To access the drives you need to have the drivers in the image. If drivers
are not in the database, you will have to create custom components for them
or install them post-FBA.

This computer is just a basic Dell OptiPlex. I figured that running tap.exe
would at least give me the right drivers for a standard floppy and standard
cd rom. This system seems very difficult to work with. Please comment.

Also, I wish there was a standard desktop template. I am really looking to
lock out the customer from all functions; no so much reduce size. Should I be
looking for a different solution than XP embedded?

Thanks for your help.

A desktop system shouldn't be too complicated to get XPe running on. If
you're tyring to do dual boot, than this compounds the effort. It should be
too hard. Missing drivers are commonand you have to create components from
teh driver disk supplied by the hardware manufacturer.

XPe gives you more room to lock the system down so it is the better choice.

Do you have the disk formats included? CDFS for example is needed for
CD-ROM drives.

Thanks! It was the fact that the disk formats were left out. All devices now
are working.

I am using the Windows Base Terminal Professional template. I assumed this
was the most "complete" template to use and would have included these
formats. Is this the best template to use? Is there one that is more complete?

Thanks again for the help from both of you!
