I have recently taken over as network administrator for a small company of
about 150. The previous administrator did a poor job of traking our software
licenses. I am attempting to determine what kind of product key is being
used on one of our desktop installations of Windows 2000 Professional.
We have VLK for 2000 Pro, 2000 Server and XP Pro. We also have a few
desktops that came with OEM installations of 2000 Pro. To make things even
more fun, there are several retail installations of XP Pro and 2000 Pro, both
of which are the Academic Edition, for which we qualify.
I am using a third party application to retrieve our product keys from
current installations of Windows 2000 Pro and XP Pro. Is there any document
that shows what format the different Windows product keys are in? Or is
there anyway I can contact Microsoft to see what kind of product keys some
of these are?
Thank you.
