Why do you find it necessary to spew nonsense about things you know
nothing about, JAD?

You're just a troll half of the time.

Not very seful. -Dave

Sounds like a senseless troll to me. It can tell you whether you
will need more. Do you think that increasing memory size is the only
important upgrade for a video card? Most gamers say that video card
speed is much more important.

What frustrates the crap out of me is my new game
box has an nVidia GF7900GTO with 256 meg. I've
started back through my old games .. like MOHPA
.... and the improvement is just amazing in every
aspect. THAT is just frustrating to know that most
of my games were written so advanced that only
now can I play them with full graphics and AI.
Another game like that is Far Cry. I can see a huge
jump in the AI and images that I never saw before.
For example, on my ATI 9800, I might see a Frog
or two in the Steam level. Now, I have dozens of
Frogs in both the Steam and Swamp levels. Plus,
I have a much higher FPS, but that was never
really a big problem with the 9800 ... just no Frogs.
I'm really looking forward to the Flight Sim level in
MOHPA. It was not bad on the 9800, but now it
should be much more detailed, and the controls
should work smoother. No wonder the game
coders want a reliable game box standard. Most
of our games have never run as they were meant
to.

John Doe "contributed" in alt.comp.hardware.pc-homebuilt:
Just found a program to measure video memory usage. The author says
there are many others, but it's the first one I've noticed and it's
extremely efficient/simple.

Might help figure out how much video memory I'll need in my next
video card.
