desktop wont show up!!!!help!

hi

I have winxp and everything was working perfectly until
this morning when i went to turn on my machine. The winxp
loads and all i see is mz background picture and desktop
and start menu and icons wont show up!!! i tried clicking
everything and still nothing. when i press the button for
turning off the computer, they all apppear for a
minisecond and the computer shuts down. please help me.
this has happened at the worst time, i have a deadline
tomorrow and everything is inside!!! thank you so much!!!!

WOW that is just amazing, I have just posted the same
problem, just started happening to me an hour or so ago!!

right click on any part of you desktop screen and select ARRANGE ICONS BY,
in the next menu that open up, select SHOW DESKTOP ICONS.

Right click desktop, arrange icons then put a tick next to show desktop
items.
