Desktop - unwanted "toolbar"- Help

Not sure what i did but I now have a column on the left of my desktop that
takes up approx 1/6 of the screen - I would like to get rid of it but
nothing I have tried seems to do the trick - any suggestiions please.

It has three areas titled: "Folder Tasks", "Other Places" & "Details" - it
looks like something related to explorer but I have tried several options in
explorer. Right and left clicking in the "toolbar" has no effect.

Would apreciate any suggestions / help.

Remove Common Tasks from Desktop:

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 /i shell32

Restart Windows.
