Desktop to laptop folder synchronisation

Is there a small (ideally free) prog which will keep a large folder on my
desktop in sync with a similar one on my laptop when they're networked
together?

I've tried over several days to get the MS Briefcase to work and it is so
flaky that I have no confidence in it - I've set it up, seen it run
perfectly, changed one file to experiment then watched as it deleted
everything in the folder, recreated it again then deleted all the files and
left only the folders. All within the space of 10 minutes on a pair of
virgin XP SP2 machines on a network of 2 machines.

So, please don't suggest I try Briefcase again - I wouldn't if you paid me!

Many thanks in advance.

The people here recommend something called Second Copy
