Desktop Shortcut behave like the quick launch?

Hi, I have been looking for (without much success) a way to make an XP
desktop shortcut behave like the quick launch button that offers me
more than one program with some sort of pop up menu. My quick launch
is getting full, I like a relatively clean desktop, and being able to
group several programs in one desktop shortcut (like music, graphics,
upkeep, you get the picture) would tickle my fancy. Yes, I know I can
create a shortcut to a small folder full of several shortcuts, but I
then have to move my mouse clear up to the corner of the window to
close that folder, and damm it all, this is the 21st century, and I
want a state of the art shortcut that shows me several choices, with
one click, or better yet, just hovering over. I prefer not to add
another program that hogs up my ram or whatever you call it. Is there
some way to do that in xp home edition?

I appreciate all you folks who take the time to answer questions, I
have found many a answer on here and solved many problems cause of you
folks, God bless ya.

Hi.

Why not just have a nice new links toolbar on the left or right of your
desktop. Drag all the shortcuts you want onto it. With 'auto-hide' and
'always on top' enabled you'll never see it until you pass your mouse over
the edge of the desktop.

Right click the task bar and create new Toolbar...

Hope this helps,

Ed

Try this, create a small folder and put all your links
that u want on the tollbar into it. Right Click the
Start/task Bar in an empty space and click toolbars then
New toolbar...
Find ur folder and highklight it and then click ok.
if ur taskbar is "locked" (u cant move them) then right
click it in an empty space and unclick the Lock the
Taskbar.
Drag this toolbar u have created to where ever u want
Enjoy. ;)
Hope i helped

Kieren

Thank you both Edward and Kieren for your suggestions, I tried them
both, and they both work great. But they just aren't quite what I've
been looking for.
I really want a shortcut on the desktop (that I can choose the icon
for), that will have multiple targets. If anyone comes across such a
thing I would appreciate a heads up. Your great for helping out all of
us faceless strangers on these newsgroups, Happy Holidays to all!

You may not be aware that the Quicklaunch shortcuts can act as a pop-up.
Move the glider (silver, vertical bar) in the QL area, to show fewer items
on the Taskbar...

This will create a button with two >>. Click on it, and all the QL
choices will pop up.

I know Dev, mine goes more than half way up the screen, but I
appreciate your time tryin to help. I guess I'm just gonna have to
wait till the next century to get the kind of desktop shortcuts I'm
after. ;)
