Desktop search comparison

Hi all..

I did a GoOgle search on the above subject, and amongst the
results was the following url
http://www.goebelgroup.com/desktopmatrix.htm

The last update was last week, so hopefully it will include
the most recent versions of the softwares.

Other links are:
http://slate.msn.com/id/2111643/

Personally I will evaluate Blinkx, Google, and Copernic. will
let you know my conclusions, but meanwhile if anyone else is
doing the same then lets have it !!

btw: yahoo have something cooking, in the beta oven right
now..

I tried Copernic recently, and thought it was pretty poor; when I treid to
uninstall it, it wouldn't go, so I had to rip it out by the roots.

It was still messing up my quick launch (2 of them!), so I searched the
registry and found about 30 entries which I deleted.

That fixed it.

So I wouldn't reccomend it ;-)

I don't recommend Copernic either -- it's too damn slow! It was STILL
scanning my drives after 3 days -- whereas Google did them in about 20
minutes! Says it all...

Having the same problem, but have yet to root out the offending matter.
If you have some info on what to look for in the reg, would appreciate,
thanks

Well, I also looked at copernic, and if you read the eula
then you will be informed that this sofware uses 3rd party
scamware..

Didn't get to the point of installing it.

Use regedit, or your reg cleaner of favour to search the registry for any
entry with "copernic", and delete them all.

I do this with everything that fouls me up (there's been a few!), and I
always then reboot, standing by to scanreg/restore.

But I've never needed to yet.

About Copernic -

It takes forever to shut down on my system. Memory usage hovers around
400MB during this period.

I've disabled it in my startup config for now.

Thanks, I used regseeker, removed every reference to copernic, but my

I can only suggest a visit to alt.windows.98 or whatever flavour you use

I had never problem with un/re installing of CDS 1.0-1.2 on my
win98SE... note that using Total uninstall, so cannot see
if uninstaller works well or not.

BHO's..

Worth trying ......

Using "Total UnInstall" to monitor the installation, reinstall Copernic,
then remove with Total Uninstall.

I fear it wouldn't work, since Total Uninstall monitors the /changes/ made
by the install, but if those keys are already there...

It may be something else.

You can get a scan of your PC from

http://www.pcpitstop.com/default.asp

They *are* in the business of selling things, but you can use their scan
facilities.

If you have jv19 tools - which I don't really like, as it can cause (me!) a
lot of grief if used carelessly, there is a page that displays all your
software, some of which you may have uninstalled, or not even know it's
installed itself.

See if there's any snide stuff there - any wrongun's I do the same thing -
clean them right out.

Tried winpatrol, it found a helper, I deleted, will see what happens on
next reboot, I did consider using total uninstall, but for the reasons in
future post did not.
