I had this spyware download onto my computer -AvGold- It took over my desktop
and made it black with a warning sign and could not get rid of it. One of
solutions I was given was to remove it from c://WINDOWS/screen.html. (well,
this was before I knew about microft's spyware program download) It deleted
my desktop and it only comes up with a white screen. And when you right
click on the desktop and go to properties - it comes up unavailable. Does
anyone know what I can do to get this back? I havent got the slightest. I
am hoping i don't have reformat.

Tami,

-Did you just delete screen.html or the WINDOWS folder containing
screen.html?

-Does your Recycle Bin still contain the deleted files? If so, right-click &
restore them.

-right-click 'Start', click 'Explore', navigate to your 'WINDOWS' folder, do
you see file explorer.exe?

-If not, navigate to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386, right-click & 'Copy'
file explorer.exe. Navigate to 'C:/WINDOWS', right-click & 'Paste' the
explorer.exe file into the Windows folder.

-Try using 'System Restore' to a date before the problem

You may try System Restore in Safe mode.Select a date prior to this
incident.

Tami, I think what you have there is a blank HTML page that is hiding
your desktop. Try this:

Start > Control Panel > Display. Click on the Desktop tab, click on
Customize Desktop button.

Click on Web tab. If there is anything listed in the Web Pages box with
a checkmark beside it, make a note of the name so that you can delete
the file later. Uncheck the box and uncheck Lock Desktop Items, and OK
your way out.

If you now have your desktop back, do a Search for the file whose name
you noted down and delete it.

Hope this helps. Post back again if you are still having trouble.
