Desktop refreshes, theme reverts back

I just installed Win XP upgrade from Win 98 SE less than a week ago. About 1 to 3
minutes after every boot/re-boot a system sound will play (chirp) and the desktop will
refresh, icons flash, taskbar goes to black and rebuilds. It now also reverts back to
the default theme since I've changed the wallpaper and Appearance to the silver theme.
I've disabled "Fast user switching" since no-one else uses this PC as a guess. I can't
see anything in the system report. I've searched help, MSKB, the MVP sites and this
Newsgroup but must not know the correct keyword.

Can you give me a clue? Thanks,

MJ

Kelly,
Thanks for the reply. I saw that as a possibility in a previous post but unfortunately
it's not the solution. Thanks though.

It's odd, when I boot up, the second theme (well as much as XP can have as a theme) that
I set up is there, about 3 minutes in the wave plays and the theme that I set up the
first day I installed XP (default XP blue and one of my *.bmp's). If I do nothing but
restart, the second theme I set up (XP silver and another one of my *.bmp's) loads.
Three minutes later, chirp and back to the first theme! Very strange.
