Desktop problems...please help

I have a very annoying problem.
Every once in a while all my desktop icons disappear....for no apparent
reason.
To bring them back I have to right click the toolbar(bottom) and select SHOW
DESKTOP. Then all the icons show up again BUT as soon as I click on ANY icon
to run
a program, the program runs BUT all the icons disappear again.
I have resorted to restore point to clear this problem but I wonder if
anyone know why this happens and how to clear this situation other that
using the restore point
I would appreciate any help
Thanks

Try updating your video card drivers. Get them from the device mftr.'s
website or from the OEM's website for your particular model computer if
you have an OEM machine (HP, Sony, Dell, etc.).

I suggested updating your video drivers because strange problems with
icons and/or display are often due to needing a driver update. Often
things like that happen after an end user inadvertently applied a video
driver update from Windows Update. It can't hurt (you can always roll
back drivers if you don't like the newer ones) and helps to narrow down
the troubleshooting. Another way to focus the troubleshooting is to ask
yourself what changed between the time things worked and the time they
didn't.

Naturally, you will also want to determine that your computer is 100%
malware-free. Post back if you need help with that.
