Desktop Not Accessible-Windows XP Home

I am able to log on as usual. When Windows opens, the
only thing showing is my desktop without any icons. No
matter what I try to do, I am not able to bring anything
up. I can bring up the task manager and run a new program
to get around.

I am a new XP user and my knowledge is at the beginner
level. I would appreciate any suggestions. At this time,
this is the most crucial problem I am having.

I am experiencing the same thing today suddenly. Is this
a possible virus? Anyone know how to display again???

I have the exact problem - when I went into system
management tools, I found the folowing error message: "
The following drivers failed to load - cdudf_xp" The MS
Help & Support Center indicated that my "boot system
drivers failed to load properly", and "The following boot-
start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: %1"
