Desktop icons have disppeared

Hi, I can see my desktop, but for some reason it is blank...even the trash
is gone. When I try sending a shortcut to my desktop, it does not appear as
well. PLease help!!
 
Try this:

Right-click on the desktop.
Select Arrange Icons By
Click Show Desktop Icons.
