I left my office for a while, and when I came back all
the icons on my desktop were missing. I have tried
everything I can think of to find how to restore them,
but with no success. I can still run everything I need
to from the start menu, but it certainly is clumsier than
the shortcuts. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious
that would allow me to restore all these icons. Can
anyone help?

Ctrl-Alt-Del and go to Processes. Hightlight explorer.exe
and end task... Click File at the top and select New
Task... In the popup type explorer.exe and hit enter. All
should be back now.

Hello!
Right click on the desktop, choose properties and click on
"Customize Desktop". Internet Explorer, Recycle Bin, My
Documents and/or My Network Places can be added or removed
here.

I tried that -- no success -- still no icons. I've even
tried recreating shortcuts by "drag & drop" but nothing
shows up on the desktop. Any more guesses?
