Desktop icons do not respond to double clicks

Using Windows 2000 Professional at home and have a problem which recently
started. There is a long delay between the time I double click on an icon
and the time the program opens. Any ideas\suggestions?

Anything like that, it is more likly caused by windows is malfunctioning
or you have virus. I suggest you to install latest service pack then if
problem continues, then check the virus.
I had the same problem before. That is what I did. Then everything is
back to normal after that.
