Desktop Icons all highlighted

The other day I copied a .gif file to my system from an
email (yeah, I know -- my virus defs are updated and
VirusScan enabled -- ). Since then, all my desktop
icons and assorted file menus are all highligted as though
selected.

What can I do to fix?

Try restoring your system from a System Restore Point from a date just prior
to the problem. (Start button/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System
Restore.
