I was recently working somewhere where there was a Desktop shortcut/icon at
the bottom of the screen.

Can anyone point out how to do this in XP - rather than reducing all the
other windows.

Thanks

Nick

Here are a few ways to minimize the open windows to show the desktop:

- Right-click the Taskbar, click Toolbars, Quicklaunch. If the
Quicklaunch bar doesn't include the Show Desktop icon, right-click the
desktop, click New, Shortcut. Type "Show Desktop.scf" (no quotes), and
click Next. Drag this icon to the Quicklaunch bar.

- Press Windows key and M key to minimize all windows.

- Press Windows key and D key to display the Desktop. This one is a
toggle, so, like the Show Desktop shortcut you can press it again to
reopen the windows.

That's normal.

No need for that. Try [WinKey]+[D] instead.

Thanks for the latter. I couldn't work out the former - it turned out that I
didn't have my Quick Launch toolbar where, in fact, Show desktop is located.

You're certainly welcome. Glad that this issue has been resolved.
