Hello,

I have an icon on my desktop named "fix3.bat." I'm pretty sure it was
put there by a technician who configured my new computer last year.
When I click on it, what comes up is a window entitled
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe.

I'm thinking it is probably safe to delete it, but I'd like to be
sure. I'm also curious as to what purpose it served--why the
technician placed it there.

Thanks,

MOB

You could call up the technician and simply ask him/her. Or else
right-click on it and choose Open With. Select Notepad. Now you can
read the .bat file, which should give you an idea what it is for.

Yes, but apparently I wasn't choosing to do that, so why bother
suggesting it?

I wasn't given that choice, and when I clicked on Open, I was told
some server couldln't be found, so I deleted it.

But thanks anyway.

Open Notepad
Drag the file to Notepad window

Because I can't read your mind, you rude little twit. Thank god.

That wasn't a very nice thing to say, now was it, Malke?

By the way, one should refer to the Almighty as God.

Guess you got tired of being <plonked> for your trolling in the security
newsgroups, and are making your way to others.

They'll catch on to you here, also.

Not too tired, Tom ........ but it *has* been a long time! :)

I have nothing to hide - just who do you think will catch me ........ and
for what?
I'm trying to identify the bad guys. These newsgroups would seem an ideal
place for them to hide.
Are you hiding here Tom, with malicious intent, or are you really trying to
*help* others?
I've found no way to tell the good guys from the bad here. I fear there is
no way of knowing.
Those posting with problems are highly vulnerable and will assume that a
Microsoft
site (albeit a newsgroup) will be 'policed' - I still do not know whether or
not it is.

Perhaps someone will eventually enlighten me.
