Desktop ICON disappear

Somehow we have our XP Pro computer where it no longer
show the program icon shortcuts on the desktop. I have
them in the lower bar only.

I've tried changing between XP view and old 2000 view but
that doesn't help.

Any ideas how to get the icons back?

Right click the desktop - Arrange Icons - Hide Desktop Icons
