Somehow, my desktop has been changed to a Windows Explorer type screen. In
other words, my background picture has been shifted to the right, and there
is a white column to the left that has the same options that you would see if
you were looking up a folder in Windows Explorer. I cannot right click in
this white column, I cannot open the folder properties in the control panel,
and I cannot find any other way to reset so the my background picture covers
the entire screen.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks for the help. PC is still a little slow, but the desktop is now back
to normal.

There have been many posts that SP2 has slowed down systems. If you haven't installed
SP2, then run msconfig and see if you can do without some of the items that are loaded at
startup. Do some maintenance: Delete temporary internet files, delete or archive
unnecessary email and compact email folders, defragment your hard drive. Run utilities
like Ad-Aware (free version) to get rid of spyware/malware.

If you have less than 512 MB of RAM get more. It's inexpensive at sites like
