Desktop blanks /explorer closes

XP PRO

Intermittant problem:

When working with files in the Windows Explorer, the
Explorer will close suddenly and all icons on the desktop
disappear.
Only the background picture remains.
After 5 seconds the icons return.

This happens regularly. All SPs installed. NAV running.
No worms or trojans found.

Any idea appreciated. I do not see this symtom anywhere on
the knowledge base as yet.

I'm having a very similar problem. The system periodically freezes for several seconds, the desktop icons disappear leaving just the background. The icons then reappear. I also noticed that, when this occurs, many of my quick launch icons are lost and do not return unless I restart. It seems to happen when I try to access "My Computer", though it does not happen everytime.

Just like with Peter, no viruses, spyware, adware, etc. found.

I first noticed this issue on 7/24/04.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
