Desktop Alert: Virus threat?

Hello.
I was just wondering if anyone has researched the possibility of Outlook's
2003 desktop alert feature as a source for virus intrusion, akin to the
preview pane. Any information would be helpful, specific resources (articles,
knowledgebase) would be tremendous!

How could that be a virus threat? Both don't allow script execution and only
display text.

No. And for the record, the preview pane is actually quite safe - more safe
than opening a message to read it.
