Perhaps somebody can tell me why the desktop alert stops working after a few
days.

Perhaps, but it would be helpful if we knew more about your system. What
operating system are you using? What version of Outlook and have you
installed the latest service packs? Stops working a few days after what?
That's a good start....

My computer is 100% up to date. We have installed the Office program 2003 on
several other systems but the alert stops after a few days. All computers
have SP2 for OS and Office. So there you have it.

And if you do a Detect & Repair on Outlook do the Alerts resume (even for a
few days)?

The alerts don't fire, if I recall correctly, if you are looking at the
Inbox. Any chance you just have the Inbox open all the time?

Under Tools | Options | E-mail Options | Advanced you do still have "Display
a Desktop Alert" checked, right?
