Desk top Icons are black

all my desk top icons are black boxes only the print underneath tells you
what they are. How can I put all the icon pictures back on and get rid of all
the black boxes?

Right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Advanced. Now using the
item drop down box, choose Icon. Change the pixel number by one. OK all the way out.

Also Powertoys is available (which has a repair icon cache in it)

Note: V2.10.0.0 needs at least Windows XP SP 1

hanks everyone for your help i couldn't wait so i just reinstalled xp but i

My folder, IE, "My Computer", etc. icons were unexpectedly replaced by a
generic icon. Your post was very helpful. I used the TweakUI Powertoy's
"Repair Icons" and it fixed them.

Nice to hear you got this issue fixed. FYI: In some configurations (not all), Tweak UI Repair icons function corrupts the icon views by assigning an incorrect value to " Shell Icon BPP " registry value.

My Windows explorer keeps disappearing as well as some other icons. I've
read the posts but no answer for this problem. Thanks.
