Designing an application using php and mySQL

hi everyone second thing im in trouble with

I need to design a small web databse application using PHP and mySQL

not really good with this stuff
i know html well but i really dislike this php stuff

Im lost on how to do this
ive got to make a guestbook and make sure that it works

I already have a website up and running
I just need to somehow use telnet and winSCP to "design the database and tables"

I am rather frustrated because i dont know how to do this

if you think you can help me please let me know
