dependency errors

I haven't built my configuration for quite a while but when I just now tried
to do a dependency check I get the following error and am not sure how to fix
it?

Starting dependency auto-resolve at: 11/15/05 10:25:33...
Info 106: Adding system component: "Windows API - User [Version
5.1.2600.2180, R2890]", origin: "Windows API - User- HotFix Q890859 [Version
5.1.2600.2180.1, R2900]"
Info 101: Initializing new component: "Windows API - User [Version
5.1.2600.2180, R2890]"
Error 1106: Multiple active components collision between: "Windows API -
User [Version 5.1.2600.2180, R2890]" and: "Windows API - User- HotFix Q890859
[Version 5.1.2600.2180.1, R2900]"

Hi larry -

Looks as though the conflict is between these two components...

remove one
a. "Windows API - User [Version> 5.1.2600.2180, R2890]"
b. "Windows API - User- HotFix Q890859> [Version 5.1.2600.2180.1, R2900]"

if I am reading the output correctly, option B is not a hotfix for option a,
it's a replacement... just remove A and go with B, if that's the updated
version (which it looks like it is :) )

I had some strange errors like that when QFEs had been applied in the
wrong order. Reinstalling the QFEs that were throwing up errors - 890859
in this case - sorted it.

I had tried removing a. but the dependency checker brings it back in and then
reports a conflict.

I didn't specifically install just that QFE, must have been installed with one of
the monthly updates I recently installed. So I don't know how to get just that
one and I don't understand why having it brings in the previous component and then
errors with a conflict?
