Dell Workstation PC's cannot load critical SP2 patches?

I am a senior technologist working for a large
corporation and am surprised at the number of software
failures that occur with Dell PC's if you deviate from
the software they provide with the system, namely Windows
XP SP1a. On reviewing windows update I found 16 critical
patches and 18 recommende patches and when I tried to
install them (mostly SP2) they caused a serious error in
the WinDVD application.

Dell tell me it is not their problem and it is a
Microsoft problem, so what I want to know is how
vulnerable am I at accepting Dell's profile, especially
since I have a Dell Precision Workstation M60 and usually
use dial up services? I attach a problem report for
Microsofgt attention to the number of critical patches
that cause serious problems.

Initial Problem:
WinDVD does not start and causes error shown on
error1.jpg file.

Secondary problem:
M60 PC locked up corrupting Windows XP during performing
a system restore to an already modified restore point.

What has been done?
- C:\ drive has been deleted and two partitions
created C: (30GB) and E: (26GB),
- Windows XP loaded onto C:and all drivers and
applications loaded from the M60 Dell resource CD.
- Roxio drivers loaded from Dell CD and update
patch from Dell online support center ( Removable
Storage: Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.3.4, Patch, Windows
2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System,
v.5.3.4.21 SP28, A04-00 )
- WinDVD drivers loaded from Dell CD.

The Device Manager was then reviewed for errors:
- an error found labelled 'system base error'
see error2 .jpg file for complete tree under device
manager (the error was that no driver is loaded for
device PCI bus 2, device 1, function 3) What is this?.
- Also, an observation that the Dell 'solution
center' folder was missing from the C: drive

I tried re-installing the bluetooth, broadcom and
truemobile drivers to no avail.
I then reviewed the Dell online support site for
other potential drivers and loaded ther foillowing:
System Utilities: Dell Notebook System Software,
Utility, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi
System, v.3.1.1, A10
However no change and errors remain.

Tested for correction of initial problem of WinDVD error
WinDVD loaded OK without error, (although when I
loaded the USB boot driver the error returned).

Proceded to check the M60 PC with the latest Microsoft
critical and recommended patches and found the following:
