Dell OEM version of Office and Outlook 2003 install and activate question

Is there a problem if I install a Dell OEM version of Office 2003 XP I
got way back when and install it on a self built box?

I figure I got it legally and fair but it still asks for activation.
Will it activate over the web and let me use it or is it limited to
the Dell that saw better days?

I don't want to resort to having to purchase it again or use a corp
version.

OEM versions are only for use on the system they came with. it may activate
but that doesn't mean it's a legal license.

Try this instead to answer instead of the illegal business. I am only
trying to temporarily fix and send e-mail. I really did not want to
resurrect that old computer. It was just handy.


I had a failed disk clone and have a problem sending, but not
receiving messages.

I set up another computer with an OEM Office 2003 Pro from a Dell I
have but have been informed that is illegal since it didn't come with
the box I installed it on.

So here is the short version. I can send when I "TEST" the settings in
the edit area. (on the box I tried to clone the disk on) Says it works
but trying to send an actual message it fails with an error.

I have let it have permission in my firewall so that is not it. I have
resorted to using Hotmail to reply to messages and that's pretty
tedious.

The Seagate drive clone software locked up it seemed and I aborted the
operation when I should have let it go. Most people say it should not
have changed any settings as it was only "copying" Well, I am telling
you I have never seen the issues it has caused. So, until I get real
enthusiastic and do a complete reformat and re-install of XP Pro and
all my programs, all I'd like to do is send e-mail.

What is the error? Are you correctly authenticating with the server?

The error verbatim is...........

Task "Comcast Mail-Sending" reported error (0x800CCC13) : "Unable to
connect to the network. Check your network connection or modem.

On the Test Account Settings dialog for my default settings it says
"unable to log to the outgoing mail server(SMTP) Please verify your
SMTP server and - if your server requires authentication-the
authorization information on the "More Setting" pages.

Says 4 of 5 tasks completed successfully. I have 5 e-mail address
accounts and all seem to test OK except the default which does not
test OK.

It must be in there somewhere. Maybe I will try Comcast as a last
resort.

Comcast uses non-standard ports for its mail servers - see

This configuration worked fine before the aborted clone of the C:
drive so I don't see Comcast as being the culprit now but I will look
at and follow the link instructions if they appear to help.
