Dell Monitor USB ports

Occasionally I lose the USB ports built into my monitor. The peripherals
connected to them have to be re-installed with drivers. It's a Dell
Monitor 1704FPV. Help please.
 
Check in Device Manager as to whether they're set to go to sleep when not
required. If so, disable that feature.
