Whether you like aperture or shadow-mask tube type more can
be a personal preference. I prefer Aperture grills and also
Sony's (Trinitron) more than Mitsubishi's (Diamondtron).
Many people also prefer CRTs still for gaming or graphic
design work... so yes, "I" would find it a good choice for
gaming but I can't speak for your tastes.
