the type of memory in the machine will not affect the software.
For help, you will need to give better details

We have a Dell Insperion 700 and Delorme GPS program runs just fine; voice
and screen movement. It won't work in our home because we have a tile roof
which the underlay in aluminum foil blocking the radio signals from the
satellite. In the car, with the GPS unit on the dash, under the windshield
area it took us from the State of Washington south to Longbeach, CA and home
without a problem. If you plan to run it more than 3 or 4 hours at a time
better get an inverter to change the car's 12DC to 120AC.

It may take up to 3 or 4 minutes for the GPS unit to acquire the satellite.

Good luck. One more thing, best to have a navigator in the right seat of
the car. Not practical for the driver to be looking at the laptop screen.
