Can the hotfix listing in add/remove programs be deleted
without harming the current configuration of my PC

Hi Mike,

To remove the hotfix entry from Add/Remove without removing the actual
update,

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
4. Make sure you backup the keys by exporting them to a .reg file.
5. Look for the hotfix number
6. Delete the entire listing for the hotfix.
7. Close the registry editor.
8. Restart your computer.

By doing the above, only the Add/Remove entry is removed; the update will
not be removed. Also, uninstallation of any hotfix is not possible.

If you use those you remove the fix. If you decide you are not going to
uninstall fix Qnnnnnn (check at
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;nnnnnn for what it is about)
delete the hidden folder windows\$NTUninstallQnnnnnn$ of files that
would be needed. If you then try to use the Add/remove's Remove for it,
it will fail and offer to remove that entry instead

Hi Alex

I advocate leaving those folders where there are - just in case. I've known situations where those folders have been deleted and then needed later - the scenario then is to re-install those updates to be able uninstall them - a 'roundabout' course of action, but it can't be avoided - at least IMHO.
