Deleting pages from a pdf file

Acrobat won't let me delete the pages for a particular pdf file. I'm not
sure if the file is protected in some way

You could try. Select All\Copy then paste into MS Word.

If you are using Acrobat Reader...no editing of any type is possible

Sure there is.

Check out PDFTK:

http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/

It's a command line tool for PDF manipulation, including PDF splitting &
merging. Combining those two you can remove specific pages.

I haven't tried it or pdftk yet myself - just downloaded it, thanks to
Wald's recommendation, and found the GUI through a Google search.
